Nougat Soubeyran

The true story of Nougat :

Brown in color, made of honey, spices and walnuts, « Nux Gatum » has spanned centuries from the ancient times up to the present day. Its journey, from the East to Greece led it to Marseille where it positioned itself in the XVII century among the 13 Provencal desserts under the name of « Nougat ».

By going up the Rhône, a determining stop in Montélimar changed the brown color of this family - run confectionery into the white one and the walnuts into almonds.

Promoted by Emile Loubet, Mayor of Montélimar then President of the Republic in 1899, this somewhat opportunistic greed, developed its sales at the railway station when the train appeared then during the memorable traffic jams of Road N7 and finally on the motorway rest area of Montelimar when it was created.

Widely exported and appreciated all around the world, this popular and nice delicacy connected to the memories of parties and holidays remains a Provencal sweet that cannot be forgotten once tasted….
